SINGLE REVIEW: You Got This by Skindred

SINGLE REVIEW: You Got This by Skindred – November 5, 2025

Single Review By Music Journalist Paul Marshall.

November 5 might traditionally be reserved for remembering a certain “Guy” an original firestarter who once tried to blow the roof off British Parliament to associate King James, but that was four centuries ago. Today’s rebels aren’t lighting fuses, they’re cranking the latest sonic hooks from Welsh heavyweights Skindred. And what a drop it is.

“You Got This” detonates straight out of the gate with a bass-and-drum assault that hits harder than Muhammad Ali rumbling in the jungle. It’s rhythmic, relentless, and impossible not to move to. Layer in scorch-marked guitars that stay welded to the groove, and the whole foundation feels like a steel engine firing on all cylinders.

Then comes Benji Webbe, Skindred’s incomparable vocal shapeshifter, who once again proves he’s operating on a frequency the rest of us can only aspire to catch. His trademark ragga-metal fusion is on full display: one moment he’s riding the rhythm like a carnival emcee commanding a crowd of thousands, the next he’s summoning a guttural roar that could level an arena. Switching between the two is effortless, like flicking between parallel train tracks at full speed and somehow never derailing.

“You got this, hey, you got this, hey!”
It’s the kind of hook that wraps around your brain and refuses to leave, a rallying cry for everyone from the high-school misfit to the 50-year-old rediscovering their spark. Skindred have always excelled at unity anthems, and this one feels primed for festival fields, gym playlists, and anyone needing a shove back toward the light.

Then there’s that line:
“Doctor, doctor, help me please, find me a cure for this disease.”
It feels instantly iconic, tugging on a lineage of great “Doctor, Doctor” moments in pop culture, maybe from UFO’s melodic stormer, or, my pick the Thompson Twins’ 1984 synth-pop gem. I’ve got no proof Benji’s tipping the hat here, but if he is? Chef’s kiss. Nothing hits quite like a band acknowledging the shoulders they stand on while still punching a hole into the future.

What makes “You Got This” such a standout isn’t just the mash-up of styles, it’s the emotional lift behind it. Skindred have always been masters of the good-vibes gut-punch, but this track might be their most distilled dose yet. It’s a motivational speech disguised as a sonic riot, a reminder that resilience doesn’t have to whisper; sometimes it screams.

And my favourite lyric?
“All the haters, cut ’em loose.”
Preach. Frame it, teach it, tattoo it, make it a classroom mantra for the next generation of world-builders. It’s the kind of empowering line rock music used to specialise in before the genre got too cool to feel anything.

In classic Skindred style, “You Got This” is a feel-good firestarter delivered with swagger, muscle, and a mischievous grin. It’s a one-two punch of ragga exuberance and metal heft that keeps you off balance just enough to keep pressing repeat. And with a band this seasoned, and a frontman this unstoppable, that’s exactly where you’ll want to stay.

My Verdict: 5 out of 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟  for the Ragga Rock Gods.
